MY ONE YEAR EXPERIENCE AS A GRAPHIC DESIGNER AND BUSINESS OWNER.

Hurray!! July, 2021 made it a year I started graphic design professionally although it has always being what I had interest in and l have God to thank for it. I developed interest in it when my sister started a business in 2020 and wanted to design a logo. The charges were high and so we had to create one by ourselves. And that was how I started creating logos and E-flyers for business owners. With the help of online learning and YouTube videos, I can actually say I have improved to some extent. It has actually not being easy and still feels like a dream till date. This time last year, in the midst of a crazy life altering pandemic, I decided to bite the bullet and started making little money for myself. I still remember the fear of people rejecting my designs but thank God the rejection rate was low.
The last 12 months has being the best year of my learning and growing as a designer and business owner. I enjoyed the constant ride of making mistakes and celebrating wins! Okay, let me share with you what I've learnt for the first 12month.

1. Never give up:- Stating a business is not easy, you need to be consistent and never dwell on rejection of others. All you need to do is to be consistent and seek ways to improve in yourself daily.

2. Learn to solve problems:- You need to let people know what you do and how you can solve their problem. Everyone has a problem in your line of business that you can solve. For me I realized business owners need a logos, flyers business cards, Websites and many more to reach out to their target audience in other to keep up with the online marketing.

3. Everyone is doing it:- Yes, everyone is doing it, but no one is doing it like you. Anyone can get an app or a site to design a logo or flyer... But they don't have that inspiration and motivation to do it like I can. You're unique and different so bring out that uniqueness and Creativity in you to your line of business.. with that you will always standout from your competitors.

4. Tell people what you do:- Just like Matthew 5:16. You can't be doing business and hiding it. You need to let people know about it. You never can tell, you may be referred to people who needs your services...

And lastly,

5. You need to be aware of online thieves:- I remember when I just started, I designed a logo for a business owner I never knew without part or full payment (Don't blame me, I was looking for clients and never wanted to loose the little that came) After I finished the job and requested for my payment the business owner blocked me and made sure I never had access to him again. I was discouraged and almost gave up on the business. But thank God I know better now. Through the help of others I've found a way to solve that problem. You can also find a way to solve yours in your line of business.

That's all for now, thanks for reading through.. Can you relate to any of these lessons learnt?
I would love to hear from you.
