Let's talk about branding your business. Shall we?
Branding is a way of identifying your business from other competitors or anyone. It should be considered in the early stages of starting a business-- launching a business with a strong brand will give you a greater chance of success.
A strong brand identity is essential for building reputation, establishing connection and building trust with your customers. Things that make up a brand are logo, colour scheme, mission statement of the company, the use of typography, writing tone set in social media posts, values, the nature of products or services offered etc.
Without telling any stories..
Let's talk about your "LOGO"
Most Graphic designers know what a logo is. And so does an entrepreneur right?
But, most people don't know what a logo is not ( Well, that's not the topic for today)
A logo is an identifying symbol. It represents the identity of an organization, product, brand, or idea. Building a strong, solid business brand begins with a good logo.
A great Logo will;
1. Make your business look more professional.
2. Help your customers remember you.
3. Stand out from the competition.
Your logo is the face of your brand so before designing a logo you need to know what you want your logo to say and how. Here are 7 type of logo:---
1. LETTERMARK OR MONOGRAM
It consists of letters, usually brand initials. Ie. FedEx uses the first few letters of “Federal Express” in its logo. Examples are IBM, CNN, HBO etc.
2. WORDMARK, TYPOGRAPHIC (LOGO TYPES)
This logo is based on fonts and focuses on the business name alone. Because there are thousands of fonts, there are literally thousands of options available when it comes to creating a typographic logo. Examples are visa Coca-Cola, Google, Disney Office Max, Walmart etc.
3. PICTORIAL MARK ( LOGO SYMBOLS/BRAND SYMBOLS)
It is an icon or graphic based logo. Examples are twitter birds, apple logo, target bullseye.
4. ABSTRACT LOGO MARK
It is a specific type of pictorial logo instead of being a recognisable image like an apple or a bird- it's an abstract geometric form that represents your business. Examples are Pepsi, the strip -y Adidas etc.
5. MASCOTS
They are illustrated character often colourful, sometimes cartoonish and most always fun. They are simply illustrated character that represents your company examples are KFC, Mickey Mouse etc.
6. THE COMBINATION MARK
This is the most common type of logo we see. It comprises of combined wordmark and or lettermark and a pictorial mark or mascot. It combines a unique icon with a type treatment of the product or company name, hence the name combination mark. Combination logos have the advantages of both icon and word marks. Examples are McDonald’s, I 💛NY, Red Lobster logo, Doritos, Burger king, lascoste etc.
7. EMBLEM
It consists of a font inside a symbol or an icon, ie badges, seal and crests. It usually have a motto on it and is commonly used in schools and church Examples are Harvard, Starbucks, coffee etc.
Note:
A logo and a brand are not the same thing.
A logo is part of a brand and it's purpose is to identify the brand. It represents what the brand stands for.
Thank you.
